This symposium will begin with an overview of the prevalence and morbidity associated with chronic pain conditions. The barriers and disparities that prevent effective treatment of patients suffering from pain will be discussed. Next, the faculty will review the pathophysiology of chronic pain and highlight potential targets for treatment. They will then go on to provide clinical trial data demonstrating the effectiveness of nonopioid analgesics in managing chronic pain. The activity will conclude with an interactive question-and-answer session.
